Sheridan C Series Serial Numbers
It just says 'C Series - Made in U.S.A.' The only part on it that is silver is the bolt lever. Serial number is 255XXX so it looks like it may be a 1978 Mine shoots fine. On 8 pumps it's just about 590 fps. But lately I've been looking at the new break barrel nitro-piston style. Less pumps, a little further reach, and a scope. Looks like you're correct on the year. 1978 serial numbers 211021 thru 257460 Put two pumps in it and let sit over night. If it fires the next day then you can probably get away with only replacing the pump cup on the front end. Make sure you clean the gunk out of the cylinder if you do it yourself. Mac1 or JG airguns carry parts.
Pics would help-If it has the rocker type safety its a newer model, the older ones had a “hold down’ type of safety.
I got a kit for an 80’s era gun and started by replacing the pump cup and cleaning the gunk out of the pump tube. I lubed the cup and tube with Pellgun oil and after some pumping and dry firing it now holds air. I never did tear int o the valve on that one. If you do get a kit make sure you have the valve tool as well and do search for ‘how to rebuild a Sheridan model c’.
Here’s an ’80s era rocker type-front sight was broken off when I got it.Pics would help-If it has the rocker type safety its a newer model, the older ones had a 'hold down' type of safety.I got a kit for an 80's era gun and started by replacing the pump cup and cleaning the gunk out of the pump tube. and put about two good squirts into the hole that sucks the air into the chamber. Hold the barrel straight up while
pumping the gun up about 8 to 10 pumps. Let is sit for about ten minutes. Then shoot a pellet out and repeat this
a few times. THEN store it over night with three pumps in the chamber WITHOUT the bolt cocked…Let me know
how this works….AKI had one of these a few years ago I bought used. Same symptoms. Their model C kit is for all C series, made before 1985 iirc. AND the kit includes a schematic and instructions.

Sheridan C Series 5mm Serial Numbers
Your Benjamin/ Sheridan 397 is currently manufactured and sold, so has no
collector value. When we were kids Benjamin, Sherican and Crosman were
different companies. Htv box for kodi download. Today they are all owned by Crosman, and the
Benjamin/Sheridans and Shericans are all the same design, differing only in
cosmetics and caliber.
Your 397 is a nice gun which sells new for about $100. Do not pump it more
than 10 times, and 8 would be better. 3-4 pumps are fine for target shooting.
Accuracy will depend on the pellet used and the number of pumps. Try Crosman
Premier Heavies, Beeman Kodiak and Beeman Perfect Rounds.
Your gun is powerful enough for hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels
up to 25-30 yards. Aim for the head. If you plan to use the gun for hunting,
a company called Mac-1 Airguns (www.mindspring.com/~airguns/) can tune your gun
to double its power and greatly improve the trigger.
Regards.
